Out of the Ashes – The Enable Network Assures a Grand Opening for the River City Food Bank

Mid-town Sacramento, 11/30/2010

River City Food Bank lost most everything in the devastating fire in October.   However, thanks to The Enable Network, when they resume business in their new facility in December it will be business as usual.  They will have access to their financial system, their client database, and a multitude of electronic documents and previous emails all of which were beyond the grasp of the fire, kept safely at The Enable Network’s datacenter over at Depot Park.

In addition, Dan Goodlett, Executive Director of The Enable Network, went through the wreckage a few days after the fire and recovered the laptop of RCFB’s Executive Director, Eileen Thomas.  The laptop was covered with muddy ash and Eileen considered it a total loss.  However, Dan looked at her and said, “Can I take it?”  The next day Dan pried the keyboard off the laptop and pulled the tiny hard drive from the ugly enclosure.  He was able to get power to the drive, but it was making a clicking noise.

Dan reported the news to Eileen, and she hooked him up with Mike Libby, IT Director at Downey Brand.  He assigned his Network Operations Manager, Steve Wiley, the task of preparing a donated server and Steve assigned Alan Mitsutome the task of recovering the laptop hard drive.  When Dan came back the next day, Alan had recovered all of the data off the hard drive.

“It was a great moment to give Eileen that bit of news considering all of the bad news she had to deal with since the fire,” Dan said.
